Vehicle mats are an underrated addition to the interior of your vehicle as they can protect it from ingress of mud and moisture thus preventing damage occurring. The interior structural aspects of a vehicle around the floor and sill areas can often be the hardest parts to repair. Vehicle mats in your footwell will protect your interior carpet in that area and in turn protect the metal structure below, Moreover, with the addition of mats of the right style and quality, the value of your vehicle can be preserved or even enhanced. Of course keeping your mats clean and free of debris is an important housekeeping measure which will keep your mats looking good, and maximise the longevity of the mat.
The quality of vehicle mat chosen is an important factor in the standard of protection afforded and the look & feel of your interior. The pile density quoted is usually given in g/m2 with the higher the number the better the quality. For example a vehicle mat manufactured from carpet with a density of 200g/m2 is considered to be at the lower end in quality/ feel terms, however one with a density of say 1300 g/m2 is the high end of quality in automotive carpet products. Backing material is also an important consideration when choosing a vehicle mat. Mats with a rubberised backing as opposed to a plain woven surface will undoubtedly afford better safety in terms of slippage whilst driving.
